Lars Fredrik Nystad (born 1991) is a Norwegian pianist who in the last years has established himself among Norway's foremost young musicians. He made his debut as a soloist in 2012 with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, and has collaborated with conductors such as Eivind Gullberg- Jensen and Torodd Wigum. In 2016 he made his solo debut at the famous University Hall in Oslo, and that same year he also completed his prestigious Artist Soloist Diploma program at the Norwegian Academy of Music, with Professor Sveinung Bjelland as his teacher. His former teachers also included Prof. Håvard Gimse.
Lars has been playing the piano since he was six years old and at thirteen he was admitted as student at the Young Talents Academy of the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo. Here he studied for six years with Marina Pliassova as his teacher, followed by studies at the bachelor level with Prof. Jiri Hlinka, and then with Prof. Einar Steen-Nøkleberg.
Lars won 1st prize at the 2013 Norwegian National Youth Music Competition, and has since participted in several national and international competitions such as The 15th International Edvard Grieg Competition in Bergen, where he was amongst the 12 final candidates. He is also an experienced chamber musician, and his piano trio won 1st prize at the 2014 Chamber Music Competition at the Norwegian Academy of Music. Lars have participated in international festivals such as The Bergen International Festival and The Holland International Music Sessions, playing both solo and chamber music.
