Olli Mikkonen was born in 1992 in Northern Karelia, Finland. He started his classical piano studies at the Conservatory of Joensuu, from where he continued on to study at the Sibelius Academy. His teachers include, but are not limited to, Otto Korhonen, Teppo Koivisto and Annikka Konttori-Gustafsson. Year 2016-17 he did an Erasmus exchange in Bremen Hochschule für Künste, Germany, with Prof. Patrick O’Byrne as his teacher.


Olli has participated in piano competitions both in Finland and in Germany, and has acclaimed several prizes in them; Kuopion pianokilpailut 2011, special mention prize; Steinway Förderpreis Klassik 2017 in Hamburg; Cultureprize in the 3rd Theodor Leschetizky piano competition in Hamburg 2017.


As a pianist, Olli has always had an interest for new and 20th-century music. Among his projects there has been a collaboration with the artist Antti H. Raatikainen, a concert series where they combined new music with live-painting.


At the moment Olli is finishing his master’s degree at the Sibelius Academy with Risto-Matti Marin and Juhani Lagerspetz.
